Heritage

To mirror real life, the Footbeat Festival will incorporate respect and connecting with natural and cultural heritage.

We will begin with a welcome to country to acknowledge traditional custodians of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. This welcome will be followed by appropriate and relevant dance and Smoking Ceremony.

Representatives of other indigenous cultures are invited to present their ceremony in various forms which celebrates their respect for and honouring of our planet.

Because fire plays such an important role in our local indigenous culture there will be a continuous fire maintained at the entrance to the site of the 2 days. At the heart of the ceremonial fire will be the ashes of many past fires from significant events which acknowledged culture and country. This is to engender living heritage and be a focal point for mediation, cleansing and sharing of stories.
